April had plenty of rugby, football and soccer news along with marathon running, motor sports and the usual bunch of media deals.The Chinese IT firm Huawei was busy last month. The spotlight last week was on marketing campaigns, new sponsorships and the usual run of media deals. American multinational Proctor and Gamble kicked off its “Thank You Mom” campaign in Hong Kong. The Cincinnati-based manufacturer’s regional branch named two local athletes as ambassadors and will pay for their mothers to attend the London 2012 Olympics. China dominated the news this week with announcements in sponsorships, venue management and marketing. The Chinese car maker GAC Group has increased its sports sponsorship portfolio in a deal with the International Table Tennis Federation. The company previously title-sponsored the 2011 version of the World Championships in Rotterdam.
